A Quiet Strength

(This is a stock photo, but it reminds me of Quiet Strength)

I’m one of those people who tend to speak before being spoken to; sometimes, this has a way of getting me in trouble. My husband has a quick reminder for me during these times, “Robin, get in your lane.”

Yesterday, Pastor’s message to fathers, (and even mothers), was on Joseph, the Silent Father. Not much is known about Jesus’ earthly father, and yet, we can understand much about him; not from his few words but by his many actions.

The first attribute we know about Joseph is that he was a Righteous man. When a pregnant Mary came to him, he showed her compassion and mercy rather than hostility and judgment.
“Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. Matthew 1:19

The second characteristic we see with Joseph is that he was a Responsible man. Before Joseph could divorce Mary, he had a dream and in this dream an angel told him to marry her and to name her son Jesus. He raised this child as his own.
"But after he had considered this, an angel of the LORD appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,..." Matthew 1:20-21

The final trait we see in Joseph is that he was devoutly Religious man. Joseph loved his God and followed the law to the best of his ability. He taught his faith to Jesus and the other children that would be born to him and Mary afterwards.
"When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth, and the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him." Luke 2:39-40

Yesterday's sermon was not just for fathers, but a reminder to us all that we are to live righteous lives, we are to be responsible for our families and to each other and we are to love and serve our God to the best of our abilities.

If I learn these attributes and direct them to my life, just possibly, my husband could remind me a lot less often to “Stay in my lane”!

Have a great week!

Robin
